“OCHA” predicts a harsh winter for the displaced people in northern Syria camps
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs “OCHA” published a report on Tuesday which predicted that the upcoming winter will possibly be harsh for the Syrians, especially for those living in the camps of northern Syria. They also suffer from fuel and power shortages due to the rising energy prices.
The report confirmed that nearly 6 million Syrian civilians need the assistance to bear the burdens of winter with 33% increase compared to the previous year.
The Office explained that the tents of the displaced people witness fires in winter due to misuse of heating devices as the respiratory diseases are increasing, in addition to rising prices of basic materials.
The report stressed the need for providing live-saving emergency aid for the Syrians in winter, expressing regret that humanitarian capacities have been hampered due to lack of resources, pointing out that only 26 million euros out of 140 million have been received, equivalent to 26.6%. of the funds required.
“The Syria Response Coordination Group” had launched during the last period an urgent call to fund humanitarian response operations in northwestern Syria, with an amount equal to what the United Nations talked about (200 million dollars).
