The 19th round of the Astana talks on Syria started today in the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, with the participation of delegations of the opposition, the Assad regime, Turkey, Russia and Iran.
The talks will be held today and tomorrow. Representatives from the UN, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq will patriciate as observers.
On the first day of the meeting, the participating delegations will hold bilateral and trilateral consultations and discussions concerning the issues on the agenda.
The 18round of the Astana talks on Syria was previously held on June 15, with the participation of the guarantor countries (Turkey, Russia, and Iran). Their statement emphasized the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, improving the humanitarian situation, and making progress in the political settlement process.
