Turkish Foreign Ministry: We will work to cleanse northern Syria from the Syrian Democratic Forces
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said, in a speech, on the sidelines of his participation in the 8th edition of the Rome Mediterranean Dialogue Forum: “His country needs to cleanse northern Syria from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the Syrian Democratic Forces, just as it did with the Islamic State.
Çavuşoğlu added that “as we cleansed northern Syria from the Islamic State, we need to continue our operations to cleanse the area from the Kurdish protection units and its affiliates.”
The Turkish army continues to send more military convoys to northern Syria, coinciding with targeting the sites and points of the Syrian Democratic Forces in the region.
It is noteworthy that the aim of the first phase of the military operation (according to an official Turkish source) is to control Tal Rifaat, Manbij and Ain al-Arab, which are currently controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, which is the main component of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
