Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country intends to continue its strategy to eliminate “terrorism”, by taking new steps in fighting it, 30 kilometers deep in northern Syria.
Erdogan said in a speech after he headed a meeting of the government in the Turkish capital, Ankara, that “Turkey will move to a new combat phase to destroy all the structures and resources from which the Kurdistan Workers’ Party derives support and strength, in addition to its military capabilities.”
Erdogan affirmed the need to continue its strategy of eliminating terrorism in its strongholds, and to continue this policy during the year 2023 along Turkey’s southern borders.
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced last Saturday that his country was in talks with Russia to use the airspace in northern Syria, in a potential cross-border operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Turkey has previously launched Operation Claw-Sword in northern Syria and Iraq, as Turkish warplanes carried out an intensive bombing campaign on several positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Syria and Iraq.
