Russia calls on the Assad regime to ensure the safe passage of Russian aircrafts through Syrian airspace
The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency said in a statement that the situation in Syria remains tense due to the ongoing armed conflict, calling on the Assad regime to provide guarantees of “safe flight.”
The statement affirmed the importance of obtaining a guarantee for the safe passage of Russian airlines through Assad regime airspace, pointing out that it had sent a request to obtain these guarantees, according to Sputnik agency.
The Assad regime gave permission for Russian civilian aircraft to pass through Syrian airspace, after Jordan imposed restrictions on using its airspace by Russian airlines, stressing the guarantee of safe passage for Russian civilian aircraft through Syrian airspace.
The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rossaviatsia) had previously called for lifting the ban on flights over Syria, which was imposed in 2013 against the backdrop of a Russian plane being threatened by missile strikes in Syrian airspace, according to the Russian newspaper “Kommersant”.
