Washington: we won’t get ahead of ourselves and we will await the outcome of the Turkish_Syrian talks
The United States National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, said that the Turkish_Syrian rapprochement is a wrong step and we await the outcome of the talks.
During a press conference on Friday, Kirby confirmed that Washington is not planning to normalize relations with the_Assad regime and stressed it is “not encouraging anyone” to do so.
Kirby declared that his country does not want to get ahead of itself and we will wait to see where these talks go, and what will actually result.
On the other hand, the Director of Syria and Counter-Terrorism Programmes at the Middle East Institute, Charles Lace said:”Obviously, the UAE, along with Russia, is trying to mediate and facilitate full normalization with the Assad regime,” noting that normalization efforts were focused on Jordan, but are now focused on Turkey.
The US Special Envoy to Syria Ethan Goldrich reiterated last Thursday his country’s position against normalization with the Assad regime, highlighting the importance of focusing on the political solution in Syria and the application of resolution 2254.
