Egypt’s Foreign Minister: “The goal of my visit to Syria is primarily humanitarian”
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Monday that he discussed with the Assad regime Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad ways to ease the burden on Syrian civilians after the earthquake.
This statement came in a joint press conference with al-Mekdad, in which he claimed that his country is dealing with the earthquake that struck Syria because of its humanitarian relations with the Syrian people.
He made it clear that the goal of his visit to Damascus was primarily humanitarian, and to pass on the solidarity from the Egyptian leadership and government to the Syrians.
Shoukry confirmed that the Egyptian government is ready to provide all humanitarian support to the Syrians, pointing out that this will be in coordination with the Assad regime.
Egyptian Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Damascus on Monday, for the first time since the start of the Syrian revolution against the Assad regime in 2011.
The visit of the Egyptian foreign minister is to emphasize his country’s solidarity with Syria facing the devastating earthquake that hit Syria on November 6, according to pro-Assad regime news agency.
The Assad regime foreign minister Faisal al-Mekdad welcomed his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry at Damascus International Airport, according to “SANA” news agency.
