Syria Civil Defense: Cholera death toll has increased to 22 in north-west Syria
Syria Civil Defense (White Helmets) announced on Tuesday that the cholera death toll in northwestern Syria has risen to 22.
The Civil Defense affirmed that the number of cholera cases have risen to 568, due to the destruction of infrastructure and water and sewage lines in the aftermath of the earthquake that hit north-west Syria.
The Civil Defense pointed out that its teams are intensifying the work of emergency response and sanitation especially in earthquake-affected areas. They also hold awareness sessions to curb cholera outbreak among civilians.
The Civil Defense continued that we warn the residents to pay attention to the drinking water by boiling it, cook the food well before eating, wash the vegetables well before using, and adhere to the preventive measures.
After the devastating earthquake that hit northwestern Syria, killing tens of thousands of people and injuring thousands of others, concerns are growing of the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases in the afflicted areas, at a time when questions are raised about the physical and psychological health of the survivors, and the care and follow-up needed by the earthquake victims.
