United Nations: Over 1,000 aid trucks have crossed into north-western Syria after the earthquake
The Spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, said that the United Nations and its agencies have managed to enter more than 1070 trucks carrying humanitarian aid into northwestern Syria since the earthquake hit Syria and Turkey on February 6, 2023.
He added that the United Nations staff have completed 37 missions across the border in northwestern Syria since the agencies’ first visit to Idleb following the earthquake, according to United Nation Information Center.
Dujarric pointed out that the United Nations continues to remove debris and destruction in Assad regime controlled-areas. The UN also provided technical support to committees assessing the damage in Idleb, Aleppo and Latakia provinces.
Dujarric made it clear that the United Nations has carried out assessments for over 3,700 schools since the earthquake. The United Nations has also established 8 learning spaces in shelters community centers.
It is noteworthy that the regions of northwestern Syria and southern Turkey witnessed, on February 6, a devastating earthquake killing and injuring tens of thousands of civilians in both countries, in addition to massive material losses estimated at billions of dollars.
