Erdogan stresses the importance of extending the UN aid mechanism to Syrians across the borders
In a telephone call with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the importance of extending the cross-border UN aid mechanism to northwestern Syria next July.
During the contact, the two sides discussed developments in the situation in Syria, the Sudan, and the Russian-Ukrainian war, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Liaison Service of the Turkish Presidency.
Erdogan explained that Turkey attaches importance to the continuation of the Black Sea grain shipment agreement, stressing that it will participate in the working group to be formed in the event of an agreement on ammonia pipes.
The Permanent Representative of Russia to the Security Council has threatened to use the “veto right” against a resolution that would allow the extension of the mechanism for the introduction of aid into the north of Syria through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing next July.
The UN Security Council voted last January to extend the mechanism for transferring humanitarian assistance to Syria through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing for another six months, ending next July.
