Oman hosts a meeting of Arab foreign ministers with their counterparts from the Assad regime
In a statement, Jordanian Foreign Affairs announced: “Tomorrow Monday, a meeting will be held in Amman, at which the Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Saudi Arabia will host a meeting with their counterparts of the Assad regime.”
“This meeting complements the GCC, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt consultative meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah in mid-April,” the statement said.
“This meeting comes after some countries welcomed normalization with the Assad regime after two visits to Jeddah and Cairo by Assad regime Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in April for the first time since 2011.”
The Assad regime’s membership in the League of Arab States has been suspended since 2011 for suppressing peaceful popular protests demanding change.
