Syria Civil Defense: The ongoing “terrorist” escalation in northwestern Syria threatens the lives of civilians
The Syrian Civil Defense confirmed in a statement that the ongoing “terrorist” escalation in northwestern Syria in addition to the shelling by Assad regime forces and Russia threaten the lives of civilians, impose a state of instability, and increase the Syrians’ suffering.
This statement comes in light of hard humanitarian conditions experience by the Syrians following the devastating earthquake which hit northwest Syria on February 6.
The statement pointed out that a horrific massacre took place on Sunday evening, July 9, 2023 when a car bomb exploded near a car repair shop in Shawa village in Al-Rai area, eastern Aleppo, killing 5 civilians, including a child, and seriously injuring 3 others, including a child.
The statement mentioned that on Sunday, 3 children were injured, one of them injured seriously as Assad regime artillery shelling targeted Al-Bara town, south Idleb, in light of the ongoing violence against civilians.
The statement emphasized that the attacks whether by cars bomb or Assad regime and Russia bombardment double the suffering of civilians and threaten their lives of civilians in northwest Syria.
The Civil Defense considered in its statement that these attacks a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, in light of the international community’s inaction to hold accountable the perpetrators of crimes against Syrians.
Russian warplanes carried out, on June 25, several airstrikes on the main market in Jisr al-Shughour city in Idleb western countryside, killing 11 civilians and injuring about 30 others.
The civil defense teams have responded, since the beginning of this year, to 348 attacks in northwest Syria. These attacks killed 33 people, including 5 children and 3 women, and injured 158 people, including 47 children and 23 women.
