Protesters in Sweida began on Saturday to gather at Al-Karama Square to participate in the demonstrations for the seventh consecutive day.

The people of Sweida’s villages and towns began on Saturday morning to gather before heading to Al-Karama Square in the city center to participate in the protests against Bashar al-Assad and his regime, according to Suweida 24 website.

The protesters called for the departure of Bahar al-Assad and the overthrow of his regime, while the people began to organize a solidarity stand with Al-Karama protests.

The protesters called for the release of the activist Ayman al-Fares who was arrested on Saturday morning by the security services of the Assad regime.

The protesters held al-Fares’s picture and shouted phrases calling for releasing him “we want Ayman al-Fares, the traitor out”- a reference to Bashar al-Assad.

Al-Fares was arrested by the Assad regime forces stationed at the “Al-Adiliya’ checkpoint on the Damascus-Sweida highway while he was on his way to Sweida city according to according to Suweida 24 website.

The website confirmed that al-Fares had moved from Latakia to Jaramana, in Damascus countryside, where he stayed for two days, in preparation for heading to Suweida, after he sought protection there in coordination with some of the governorate’s youth.

Last night (Friday-Saturday) several protests took place in the countryside of Daraa and Suweida, calling for the overthrow of the Assad regime and criticizing the behavior of the political opposition, emphasizing support for renewed popular protests across Syria from south to north.
