Biden: The strikes conducted by U.S. fighter jets on Iranian facilities in eastern Syria are to deter them
US President Joe Biden said: “The United States is ready to take further measures to face any threat to its bases in Syria. The strikes conducted by U.S. fighter jets on Iranian facilities in eastern Syria are to deter them.
This statement came in a letter sent by Biden to the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Biden added: “The militias affiliated to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out a series of attacks against US personnel and facilities in Iraq and Syria by using unmanned ariel systems and indirect fire.
Biden also added: “In response to the series of attacks and ongoing threats regarding future strikes, the US forces conducted precision strikes against facilities in eastern Syria used by Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its affiliated groups to command, control, store ammunitions, and other purposes.”
Biden stressed: “The strikes were carried out in a way that reduces the risk of escalation and avoids civilian casualties. The strikes aim to achieve deterrence, protect and defend our personnel, weaken and disrupt the ongoing series of attacks against the United States and its partners, and deter Iran and its backed-militias from launching or supporting further attacks on US forces.”
Biden pointed out that “The US launched these necessary strikes in accordance with the international law and its inherent right of self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter.”
It is noteworthy that during the past week, US bases in Syria were attacked by missiles and drones, which resulted in minor injuries, according to the US Army.
