The Syrian Negotiation Commission participates in the Council of Europe and presents the developments in Syria
The Syrian Negotiation Commission presented the latest developments in Syria through its participation in the Political and Security Committee of “the Council of Europe” in Brussels attended by 27 ambassadors from European countries.
The head of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, Bader Jamous, said in a statement: “A depth and elaborate discussion took place with the participant ambassadors on the mechanisms to implement UNSCR 2254, pushing forward the political process to achieve stability and security in Syria and the region.”
The statement emphasized the importance of setting a strategy in collaboration with the international community to deal with the Assad regime which rejects any political solutions and not to give it a new chance to spark chaos and perpetuate the tragedy of the Syrian people in all regions.
It is noteworthy that the Council of Europe is an international organization founded on 5 May 1949, by Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom and lately joined by Greece, Iceland, Turkey, Western Germany, and the Black Mountain. It has now 47 states around the world, including the European Union.
The Council of Europe aims to promote human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in Europe. It does not issue binding laws, but it has an authority to implement the selected international agreements which the European countries reached on different matters.
