Turkey launches airstrikes on Syrian Democratic forces-linked facilities and sites in northeast Al-Hasakah governorate

Turkish Defence Ministry announced Today on Saturday, 13 January, 2024, the destruction of 29 targets of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Syria and Iraq via air operation.

The operation led to the killing of a large numbers from the two organizations (SDF and PKK), in retaliation for carrying out an attack by PKK on Turkish sites in Iraq.

The Turkish warplanes launched after midnight on Friday-Saturday, 10 airstrikes on many sites controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces in northeastern Syria.

The airstrikes targeted the Awda oil station in Al-Qahtaniyah town, northeast of Al-Hasakah, in addition to targeting an archaeological area in Bakrawan village in Al-Malikiyah countryside, north of Al-Hasakah, and no human casualties were reported.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s chief advisor said: “We will respond to the killing of our soldiers in northern Iraq in the harshest ways.”

Erdogan will hold an emergency security meeting today, Saturday, in Istanbul, according to what the Turkish presidency announced, following the killing of nine Turkish soldiers by an attack on their base in northern Iraq on Friday.

The Turkish President’s office announced via a message on “X” platform that a security meeting will be held on Saturday, headed by Erdogan, at Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul, in the presence of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and Interior Minister Ali Yerli Kaya. The meeting will also be attended by the head of intelligence and diplomatic advisor, Ibrahim Kalin.
