OCHA: The humanitarian needs in Syria continue to rise inexorably
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) issued a report in which it said: It is expected that 16.7 million people in Syria will need assistance in 2024, the largest number ever since 2011.
OCHA added that the humanitarian needs in Syria continue to rise inexorably, while the Syrians are getting poorer with economy continues its freefall.
OCHA pointed out that 7.2 million people remain displaced, and many of them live in overcrowded camps. The majority of these people are exposed to lose the personal documents and property documents such as lands.
The report confirmed that the military operations carried out by Assad regime forces and Russia on northwest Syria during 2023, caused displacement, destroying the main infrastructure, and unprecedented suffering since 2019.
The report warned of the continued risk of dying due to the widespread unexploded ordnance (UXO).
