The Commander of the US Central Command visits the international coalition bases in Syria
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement on Monday that the commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla visited a number of international coalition bases in both Syria and Jordan to assess the security situation there.
The statement made it clear that the visit took place from July 12 to 14, and he met with leaders and individuals from the US troops to get a better insight of the security situation there.
The statement pointed out that that on July 13, Kurilla met with the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Alhnaity and main leaders of his staff to discuss the regional security issues, including Israel-Hamas war and Houthis attacks in the Red Sea.
Kurilla also visited many US military facilities in Jordan and Syria to assess the improvements of force protection and the general defeat ISIS campaign.
Kurilla previously visited US bases in Syria on February 28 and 29, as part of a Middle Eastern tour that included visits to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel.
It is noteworthy that the United States deploys about 900 soldiers and hundreds of contractors in Syria with the aim of ensuring that the ISIS organization, which was apparently defeated in 2019 after five years of war against it, does not return again.
The US-led international coalition forces have 28 bases and sites in Syria, including 17 in Al-Hasakah Governorate, 9 in Deir Ezzor, and two bases in the “Al-Tanf” area on the border triangle with Iraq and Jordan.
