Turkey: The fate of the Syrian opposition and its regions is linked to United Nations resolutions
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced in a press statement: “The fate of the Syrian opposition and the areas under its control is linked to United Nations resolutions.”
Fidan said: “There are steps that Turkey must take in cooperation with the Assad regime, such as border security, combating terrorism, and the safe return of refugees.”
Fidan added: “The situation of the Syrian opposition and the fate of the areas it controls must be discussed in accordance with United Nations resolutions.”
Fidan pointed out: “All diplomatic channels are open with the Assad regime, and Ankara’s desire to normalize relations is natural and is in everyone’s interest.”
Fidan emphasized: “His country does not impose anything on the Syrian opposition, but it stands against all terrorist organizations in Syrian territory.”
Fidan indicated: “The Turkish government does not forcibly return any Syrian refugee to Syria.”
The Turkish President renewed earlier his invitation to Bashar al-Assad to hold a meeting in Turkey or in a third country, emphasizing his determination to normalize relations with the Assad regime.
It is noteworthy that Turkey, during the past weeks, announced through many of its senior officials its intention to normalize relations with the Syrian regime, with the aim of finding common solutions and returning Syrian refugees to their country.
