Russia is seeking to hold a meeting between Turkey and Assad regime
Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced that “there is a plan to hold a meeting soon between Turkey and Assad regime to move the wheel of normalization between the two countries.
Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said in statements: “his country managed with difficulties last year to hold talks between Turkey and Assad regime.”
Lavrov added: “The talks were useful even though they did not achieve any progress, as they discussed conditions that would contribute to reaching normalization.”
Lavrov made it clear: “The Assad regime believes that continuing the normalization process requires determining the procedures for the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria.”
Lavrov pointed out: “It is necessary to prepare now for a new meeting, and I am confident that it will be held in the very near future, and we are undoubtedly interested in normalizing relations between our partners in Damascus and Ankara.”
Earlier on last Saturday, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Guler welcomed the recent statements of President Bashar al-Assad regarding the normalization plan with Turkey.
It is noteworthy that this plan is based on the two parties agreeing on a “paper of principles” that includes controversial issues such as refugees, terrorism, and Turkey’s withdrawal from Syria, and based on that, the measures that will be taken are determined.
