“SNHR” documents the killing of 57 civilians in Syria during the previous month

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented today Sunday in its report the killing of 57 civilians in the regions of Syria during August 2024, including 13 children, 6 women, and 6 victims due to torture as Assad regime were responsible for the killing of 21 civilians.

The report added: 4 civilians in northeastern Syria were killed in Syrian Democratic Forces’ shelling.

The report pointed out that “Deir Ezzor province saw the highest number of victims reaching 39% of the total. The data confirmed that 13 civilians were killed at the hands of Assad regime forces, following by Dara province with 35% as 17 civilians were killed by other parties.

According to the (SNHR), the attacks directly targeted civilian areas and infrastructure, referring to committing war crimes.

It also denounced the use of remote bombardment that targeted populated areas, in violation of international human rights law and the Articles of the Geneva Convention.

The report called on the UN Security Council to take additional measures after the issuance of Resolution No. 2254, and stressed the necessity of referring the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court and holding all those involved in war crimes accountable.

The (SNHR) called on all relevant UN agencies to make more efforts to provide food, medical, and humanitarian aid in areas where fighting has halted and in IDP camps.

The (SNHR) also urged the international community to launch projects to develop maps that reveal the locations of mines and cluster munitions in all Syrian governorates which facilitates the process of removing them and educating residents about their locations.

The (SNHR) stressed the need for the Assad regime to stop indiscriminate shelling, targeting residential areas, hospitals, schools, and markets, and stop the torture operations that caused the death of thousands of Syrians.
