The Turkish presidency denies agreement on the date and location of Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad’s meeting
The Turkish presidency denied the agreement on the date and place of any meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad, stressing that the rumors circulating in the media about the details of the meeting are not false.
According to a source in the Turkish presidential office, there are many rumors circulating about the meeting, noting that no agreement has been reached so far regarding this meeting.
The Russian “Novosti” news agency quoted the source as saying, “The meeting will be announced at the appropriate time, if there are details regarding that.”
Turkish Justice and Development Party spokesman Omar Celik had previously said that it is difficult to predict a timetable for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with Bashar al-Assad.
At the beginning of last July, Erdogan said he might send an invitation to Bashar al-Assad to visit Turkey, in coordination with the Russian president.
Erdogan’s statement came in a press conference held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington. The Turkish President renewed his invitation to President al-Assad to hold a meeting in Turkey or in another country.
