US Department of State: We are working on a proposal preventing Hezbollah from receiving arms through Syria
US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed that the United States is working on a proposal preventing Hezbollah from receiving weapons through Syria.
During the daily press briefing, commenting on the question “how will the U.S. guarantee that Hezbollah won’t receive arms from Iran through Syria in the future?” Miller said: The supply of weapons into Lebanon through Syia has been a source of destabilization in Lebanon and the region, and this matter we are strongly focused on.
Miller stressed that “the United States will continue to work to try to cut off Hezbollah’s funding sources.”
Commenting on reports that Israel revealed Hezbollah possessed Russian arms, Miller said that “he has no assessment on this matter, but it would be extremely alarming if it is true.
A report published by the American “Wall Street Journal” newspaper last Tuesday revealed that Israel found large quantities of Russian weapons in Hezbollah’s hands, which confirmed old suspicions in Israel that Hezbollah is enhancing its fighting capabilities with the help of advanced Russian weapons.
The report stated that the weapons found were modern and more sophisticated and in larger numbers than military analysts expected, and included advanced Russian weapons, such as Kornet antitank missiles, mobile missile launchers, and electronic jamming devices.
