Ankara: The international community should consider removing “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” from the terrorist list

Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, announced that Ankara will work on removing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from the terrorist list, and the international community should consider removing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from the terrorist list.

Fidan said in a TV interview that “Turkey recognizes the new administration in Syria as a legitimate partner for Ankara and for this reason the Turkish embassy reopened in Damascus. The ambassador has received instruction to contact with the central and local government officials.”

Fidan added: “UN, EU, and other countries officials also contacted with the new administration, confirming that “the time has come to remove it from the terrorist list.”

Fidan pointed out that “The will of the Syrian people is the prominent now at a time when the Turkish role appears to be the leading in the Syrian transitional phase given that Turkey backed the opposition and revolutionary forces over a decade and it was a representative player of the revolutionary forces politically before Russia and Iran.”

The leader of the Military Operations Department, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, called for lifting the international sanctions imposed on Syria, stressing that Syria was exhausted by war and that it did not represent a threat to its neighbors or the West.

It is noteworthy that Ahmed Al-Sharaa showed great flexibility in a series of transformations that he made until it became difficult to balance his past and present, and he actually succeeded in adopting the revolutionary discourse and modifying his “jihadist” identity to be a “civilian open” to all Syrian components and foreign countries, and able to be the man of the stage through the power it possesses as the largest force that imposed itself on the ground and in the administration of the state after the fall of Assad.
