Axios: US official expresses to Damascus Washington’s concerns over reports of violence

US State Department envoy, Daniel Rubinstein, expressed in his previous visit to Damascus after meeting the Syrian Foreign Minister, Assad al-Shibani, his concern over the acts of violence, reprisals, and intimidation against minorities in Syria.

The United States expressed its concern to al-Shibani about the “reports of violent attacks by extremist groups throughout the country during the recent days, according to the American Axios website.”

Two US officials confirmed to the website that the US State Department is aware of such videos and is looking into reports of such incidents.

The website made it clear that the US envoy told the Syrian Foreign Minister that “the United States is concerned over reports of violence, reprisals, and intimidation against the minorities, and that such attacks must stop.”

The website quoted a US official as saying that “Syria needs to get the situation under control because the continuation of violence could lead to increasing the internal tensions and allowing members affiliated with Assad to inflame a new conflict in the country.”

Commenting on al-Sharaa’s remarks during his interview with the broadcaster Al-Arabiya about the national dialogue and establishing transitional government and drafting a constitution in Syria, a US official said that the US State Department envoy asked the Syrian Foreign Minister additional detains about these plans during a meeting last Sunday.
