Macron: We will support the transitional process in Syria to build a free and sovereign state
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that his country will support the transitional process taking place in Syria through providing the necessary support to it.
Macron speech came at the annual meeting of French ambassadors, which was held at the Elysee Palace in the capital, Paris, on Monday, where he presented the priorities of French foreign policy.
Macron stressed the importance of building a free and sovereign Syrian state that reflects the diversity of the Syrian society in all its spectrum, according to AFP.
Macron added that the transitional process in Syria must be seriously followed up, pointing out that his country will provide the necessary support to achieve this aim in the long term.
Regarding the Syrian Democratic Forces, Macron confirmed his support to them and he will remain loyal to fighters for the sake of freedom, such as the Kurds, who stand against terrorism, including the Islamic State, as he said.
Macron called for dealing with the idea of regime change in Syria with caution, stressing the need to “look at the matter realistically and without naivety.
A few days ago, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot arrived in Damascus simultaneously with the arrival of his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock to the Syrian capital, in the first Western visit at this level since the fall of the Assad regime.
The French minister, who conducted a tour in Damascus during which he visited churches in order to meet with Christian clerics, affirmed his country’s support for “a peaceful transitional process in Syria that takes into account the interests of the Syrians and regional stability,’ as he put it.
