After the chaos of protests.. Congress resumes its electoral work
Today, Thursday morning, the US Congress, with its two chambers of Representatives and Senators, resumed the approval session for the results of the presidential elections after a six-hour hiatus after supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol.
Both the senators and representatives rejected the objection of the state of Michigan and Arizona to Biden’s victory, as well as the fall of the objection to the Nevada results for the lack of support for him from the Senate, as well as the fall of the challenge to Georgia after the withdrawal of the objection.
This came as Secretary of State close to Trump, Mike Pompeo, condemned in a remarkable position the storming of the Congress building and resorting to violence.
A similar position was issued by the Acting Justice Minister and Republican figures known to support Trump, such as Senator Lindsey Graham.
This came after Trump accused a number of Democratic and Republican officials that his coup attempt was unprecedented in the country’s history.
He confirmed in a tweet to him on Twitter: “Please support our police forces on the Capitol, they are right on our side, maintain peace.”
Trump said, “I see in front of me hundreds of thousands of people gathered here who will not be recognized by the fake media, turn your cameras towards them,” noting, “It would be great if we had fair coverage from the media.”
He continued, “We won the elections big and the results were not close. We will not concede, we will not give up, and we will not admit defeat. I got 75 million votes, yet they say that I lost, ”as he said.
Trump asked his deputy, Mike Pence, to return the votes to the states, stressing that he would simply win.
He noted, “Pence must protect our constitution, and all he has to do is to ask the states to reconsider the ratification of the elections, and if a penny does not do what he owes, it will be a sad day for America,” he said.
He accused his democratic opponents of having succeeded for many years in rigging the elections, and he repeated that these elections were rigged in an unprecedented way.
Twitter also decided to delete Trump’s tweets, in which he claimed he won the elections, suspended his account for 12 hours, and threatened a permanent ban on Trump’s account if he continued to violate the site’s policies.
The police closed the building after Trump supporters clashed with the police, who used tear gas to prevent more Trump supporters from storming the Congress building, which led to the announcement.
