Qatar Airways announces resumption of flights to Riyad
Qatar Airways announced yesterday evening that it will resume operating direct flights to Riyad , starting from Monday, for the first time since June 2017.
The Qatar Airways decision came through its verified Twitter account, shortly after a similar decision to its Saudi counterpart.
Qatar Airways said that it “intends to resume its flights to Riyadh on Monday, Jeddah on Thursday, and Dammam on January 16th.”
On Thursday, Qatar Airways announced the resumption of its flights through Saudi airspace.
Earlier, Saudi Airlines announced the resumption of operating its flights to Doha, with 4 flights a week from Riyadh, and 3 from Jeddah, with the first flights from the capital to Doha, on Monday evening.
On the fourth of this month, Saudi Arabia announced the reopening of its airspace with Qatar, one day before a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council held in the city of Al-Ula, in the Kingdom, on Tuesday, with the participation of the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which resulted in the signing of the reconciliation agreement.
Since June 2017, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the Emirates and Egypt imposed a land, sea and air blockade on Qatar, claiming its support for terrorism, which the latter denied at the time and considered it an “attempt to undermine its sovereignty.”
On Saturday, the Saudi authorities received the first Qatari travelers to the country through the land border crossing between them, known as “Salwa” and “Abu Samra”, after the kingdom restarted it, in implementation of the reconciliation
declaration.
