Behrouz Kamalondi: “Nobody in the world believes that Iran is seeking to produce a nuclear weapon”
A spokesman for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Behrouz Kamalondi, said today, Tuesday, that “no one in the world today believes that Iran is seeking to produce a nuclear weapon.”
Behrouz Kamalondi confirmed that Tehran would “produce 120 kilograms of uranium enriched by 20% within eight months.”
A spokesman for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization pointed out earlier that his country “produces heavy water to meet its needs, as well as exports it to 8 countries in the world.”
In an interview with “Afaq” channel on Iranian TV, yesterday evening, Monday, Kamalondi said, “20% uranium enrichment began according to the Strategic Procedure Law approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in Article 1, and enrichment of about 20% started production in 2009 when we were We are looking for fuel for the Tehran reactor, and then we were able to produce fuel and it became a turning point for our nuclear activities. ”
He added, “We now have about four tons of raw materials, and the decision of the Shura Council to produce about 120 kilograms within a year can be easily achieved for us, from the time we started, we may reach this amount that was set by law eight months ago.”
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Sunday that “the risk-taking policy will only increase Iran’s isolation and pressure,” noting that: “The world’s first sponsor of terrorism must not be allowed to enrich uranium in any proportion.”
The Iranian parliament had issued a decision to resume uranium enrichment by 20 percent to investigate what he described as the country’s interests.
The Iranian steps come amid an atmosphere of escalation in tension between Iran and the United States, whose government led by Donald Trump withdrew in 2018 from the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.
