Turkish immigration reveals the number of Syrian refugees expected to return voluntarily to Syria in 2021
The General Directorate of Migration in Turkey announced the number of Syrians who are expected to return voluntarily to their country, until the end of this year.
Turkish newspapers quoted “Turkish immigration” as saying that it expects the voluntary return of about 800,000 Syrians from Turkey to their country, during 2021.
She explained that this number constitutes 10 percent of the Syrian refugees on Turkish territory, while she expects the voluntary return of 10 percent of them also, during the next year.
The Turkish newspaper “Aqsam” stated that nearly 900 thousand Syrians obtained residence permits during the year 2020, and this number is expected to reach one million and 300 thousand during the year 2021.
According to the newspaper, the Immigration Directorate estimates that the number of foreigners benefiting from language courses and training for professions and hobbies provided by Turkish institutions during the current year has reached 150,000.
Last October, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Salim Kiran said that his country hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees in the world, and that their safe and voluntary return to their country tops the Turkish agenda.
Syrians in Turkey are distributed between those who live in various regions of the country, at their own expense, and those who are in camps that contain prefabricated houses “caravans”, where the Turkish authorities provide them with basic services such as education, shelter and food, for free.
