Hadi Al-Bahra: The delegation of the Assad regime must stop obstructing the work of the Constitutional Committee
The co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi Al-Bahra, said: “The work of the committee cannot continue if it does not start exercising its competencies, and the committee’s work must be stopped if the Assad regime’s delegation continues to procrastinate.”
Al-Bahra added, “The international community must accelerate the work of the Constitutional Committee, prevent its obstruction, put obstacles in its way and accomplish its tasks that achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people.”
Informed sources confirmed that the delegation representing the Syrian opposition in the Constitutional Committee continues to present its constructive positions in recent meetings, coinciding with the movements of the delegation representing the Assad regime to obstruct the work of the committee.
The same sources confirmed that the delegation of the Assad regime continues, for the second day, its attempts to obstruct the fifth round of the work of the Constitutional Committee, despite the opposition delegation hinting to stop the work of the committee.
While the opposition committed itself, in line with the fundamentals of the constitution, according to the internal regulations, which were previously agreed upon in the meetings.
The co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi Al-Bahra, previously called for speeding up the constitutional reform process to reach the drafting of a new constitution for Syria, during his meeting with the UN envoy, Geir Pedersen prior to the start of the current round.
