To defend Idlib, Turkey ends the building of a defensive line on the lines of contact with the Assad regime forces
Today, Thursday,” Al-Sharq Al-Awsat” newspaper said: “The Turkish army forces deployed in the liberated north of Syria have completed the establishment of a defensive line (steel shield), along the contact with the Assad regime forces south of Idlib,” as it put it.
The newspaper added that the Turkish forces separated the forces of the revolutionary factions, the forces of the Assad regime and the Russian forces, “to defend Idlib Governorate and the rest of the areas under the control of the Syrian opposition in the countryside of Hama and Aleppo.”
According to the newspaper, quoting an unnamed Turkish official, “It is about 6000 Turkish soldiers, and about 7500 military vehicles, including heavy artillery, rocket launchers, radars and listening vehicles, in addition to more than 200 tanks, armored personnel carriers, and they were distributed in more than 70 strategic military points and locations”.
The official confirmed, “Turkish forces have established 20 military points and military sites in Jabal Al-Zawiya alone, most notably the one on Tel Ayyub,” noting that this site “is considered strategic due to the height of its summit south of Idlib and its supervision over a large area of Jabal Al-Zawiya and the Al-Ghab Plain west of Hama,” as he put it.
It is noteworthy that Turkey has pushed military forces to the “de-escalation” zone in Idlib, northwestern Syria, as part of the reinforcements that Turkey continuously sends to support its military points and bases in the region.
