Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced that the joint monitoring center for the Russian and Turkish forces will begin work in the Karabakh region today, Saturday.
He said, “We are confident that the participation of the Turkish officers and elements in the monitoring center will contribute to the continuation of the ceasefire and the establishment of peace and stability in the region.”
Akar indicated that he had signed an agreement with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Shoigu, on November 11th, to establish a joint center to monitor the ceasefire in the Karabakh region.
He stressed that the opening of the monitoring center will make Turkey intensify its efforts to defend the rights of its Azerbaijani brothers.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed by phone with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Gihon Bayramov, the implementation of the tripartite agreements on Karabakh signed in Moscow on November 9 and January 11.
On September 27, the Azerbaijani army launched an operation to liberate its occupied lands in the Karabakh region, following an attack by the Armenian army on civilian populated areas.
After fierce battles that lasted 44 days, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced, on November 10, that Azerbaijan and Armenia had reached a ceasefire agreement, providing for Baku to regain control of the occupied provinces.
