America’s new envoy to Syria threatens the Assad regime to impose more sanctions
On Wednesday, America’s new envoy to Syria, Amy Cutrona, threatened the Assad regime to impose more sanctions if it did not comply with the political solution in Syria in accordance with Resolution 2254.
This came in its first remote meetings with a number of Syrian opposition figures separately, including representatives of the “negotiating committee” about three days ago.
Cutrona said that her country will continue its well-known policy of confronting the Assad regime in Syria, which is based on two principles of imposing sanctions and supporting the political solution based on International Resolution 2254.
Cutrona confirmed that we will impose more sanctions on the Assad regime in the event that it does not enter a real political process in accordance with International Resolution 2254, noting that it promised to continue providing support to the Syrian people through pressure to increase the crossings.
About a week ago, the United States appointed Amy Cutrona, a special representative for “acting” Syria, who held several positions in the Middle East, North Africa and South America, as she is considered one of the American figures active in the politics of the Middle East and Arab countries.
According to former US Special Envoy for Syria Joel Rayburn, Cotrona is a skilled diplomat and trusted colleague, to take the lead in implementing the US policy on Syria, and that she “will continue with the State Department team around the world to work towards a fair outcome that respects the will of the Syrian people“.
