The United States launches its first air strikes on Iranian sites in Syria during the Biden era
Today, Friday, the United States of America launched its first air strikes in the era of the new president, Joe Biden, against Iranian targets in Syria.
“The United States carried out an air strike targeting the structure of an Iranian-backed faction in Syria,” Reuters quoted US officials as saying.
The US Defense Department said that the strikes on Iranian sites destroyed a number of facilities near a border point with Iraq.
The ministry confirmed in a statement that “the raid is a clear message that Biden will take action to protect the Americans and the coalition.”
The statement stated, “The American raid in Syria comes as a response to the targeting of the coalition and the Americans in Iraq.”
The statement continued: “The targeted groups in Syria included the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades and the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades,” noting that the military response, accompanied by diplomatic measures, sends a clear message that President Joe Biden will protect the international coalition forces.
“Our calculated response to the targeting of the coalition forces aims to prevent an escalation in eastern Syria and Iraq,” the statement added.
The pro-Iranian militias have recently resorted to repositioning in eastern Syria as part of their continuous attempt to camouflage in order to avoid the escalating attacks on their sites, whether by Israel or the international coalition.
