US Ambassador to the United Nations: We will prioritize accountability for human rights violations in Syria
Linda Greenfield, the US ambassador to the United Nations, welcomed the report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, which confirmed that the Assad regime has committed war crimes against civilians in Syria.
Linda Greenfield affirmed that Washington “will continue to press for the release of Syrians arbitrarily detained in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254,” and indicated that Washington will prioritize accountability for human rights violations in Syria.
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria announced its report, on Monday, about the Assad regime’s human rights violations during the last 10 years, and once again revealed the crimes of the Assad regime against civilians in Syria, and indicated that the fate of tens of thousands of forcibly disappeared civilians was unknown.
The report pointed out that there is a belief that many of the disappeared have died or been executed, while another section is being held in inhuman conditions, speaking of torture, rape and murder of detainees, stressing that “the unknown fate of tens of thousands of disappeared civilians caused a national shock in the country.”
