Ankara: The international community ignored the repercussions of the Syrian war and failed to deal with it
Turkey’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fereydun Senirlioglu, said, “The international community ignored the repercussions of the Syrian war and its burdens on his country,” noting that “Ankara has provided protection for 9 million Syrians.”
This came in a speech he delivered at the United Nations headquarters to discuss developments in the Syrian file.
Oglu added: “During the ten years of the Syrian war, Turkey provided protection to 9 million Syrians, 4 million of them inside its territory, and 5 on the borders, and the international community cannot turn its back on this tragedy and puts the burden on our backs,” he said.
Regarding the international community’s handling of the Syrian issue, he stressed that “the Syrian war is still the most important crisis, and that the international community has recorded a dismal failure in dealing with it.”
On Turkey’s response to the “state” organization, Oglu explained that Turkey is the only country in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) that has dealt with the “state” organization, and that it alone was able to eliminate more than 4 thousand of its members in Syria.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations stated that Security Council Resolution 2254 “is the only way to meet the legitimate aspirations of all Syrians and to ensure peace and stability in Syria.”
