An Israeli newspaper reveals details of a secret operation carried out by the Israeli army in Syria
“Israel Today” newspaper revealed the details of a secret operation carried out by the Israeli army inside the Syrian territories, in which it destroyed a site of the Assad regime forces.
The Israeli newspaper said that a raid was carried out by the Israeli army, in July 2020, for the first time in years, inside the buffer zone on the border between Israel and Syria to blow up a site for the Assad regime forces, which was clearly built in violation of agreements.
The newspaper pointed out that since 1974, there has been a buffer zone between Israel and Syria, where military action is prohibited, but about a year ago the Assad regime forces began building a series of sites relatively close to the Israeli border, which could endanger fighters as well as civilians.
The newspaper continues that the Israeli army took the situation seriously and indirectly addressed the Assad regime through the United Nations, and demanded an immediate dismantling of the sites, but the latter ignored the matter.
The newspaper indicated that four months after its construction, last July, it was decided to initiate an unusual raid inside the Assad regime-controlled areas, and although it was possible to blow up the site from the air, it was decided to send a ground force to deliver the message unequivocally and not subject to interpretation: “We can work in Syria on the ground as well and harm our enemy.”
The newspaper quoted a senior officer in the Northern Command, “This was the first operation of its kind, and it must be made clear to the Assad regime that we will not tolerate advanced sites in distances that could harm our forces.”
He continued: “At the end of the day, there is Hezbollah infiltration within the Assad regime’s army, which would carry out hostile actions. Danger, and the message has arrived ”.
The officer noted in the infantry division operations, to see Parliament, that “it was important for us to convey a message that we will not allow such a matter, and in the event that our sovereignty is violated, this is a red line.”
The newspaper pointed out that since the date of the aforementioned operation in July 2020, the Israeli army carried out a number of other operations in the same way, one of which was last October.
