Idlib Health Ministry calls to support the medical sector in northern Syria
The Idlib Health Directorate called on the World Health Organization to intensify global health efforts to support the health sector in northwestern Syria, as a result of the military escalation of the Assad regime and its allies, in addition to the challenges of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.
Today, Wednesday, April 7, World Health celebrates World Health Day, under the slogan “Establishing a world enjoying the greatest health and justice”. This came in a statement published on the Facebook page.
The statement linked the celebration of World Health Day to the suffering of the northwestern region of Syria, which was subjected to the systematic destruction of health facilities and the deliberate killing of its staff, in addition to the severe lack of international support provided to the health sector in the region, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has become a real threat to the lives of the people, with
Neglect of preventive measures due to the difficult living conditions of the people and the weak health capabilities necessary to respond to this global pandemic.
The statement added that the World Health Organization’s call to make the world enjoy the greatest health will remain incomplete and illogical, as long as the northwestern region of Syria does not receive sufficient support, care and attention from the international community.
The statement indicated, “While the World Health Organization calls for making individuals enjoy good living and health conditions, the war machine of the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies is still causing mass displacement waves of people towards border areas, forcing them to live in disastrous living and health conditions, and all of this is being done.
In full view of the world and its humanitarian organizations ”.
Corona injuries in northern Syria reached 21,419, in the current April, while the total deaths reached 638 deaths.
The medical sector in northwestern Syria suffers from a lack of capabilities and equipment as a result of the destruction of dozens of hospitals and medical points, as a result of the military escalation of the regime and its allies.
Most of the people in the northern regions of Syria are unable to acquire means to prevent the spread of the virus, such as masks and sterilizers, which raises the possibility of an increase in the number of infected people.
