Saudi Arabia: We support the United Nations political and humanitarian efforts in Syria
A video conference was held between the permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Muallami, and the chair of the international mechanism, Christine Mark O’Hale, to support the international, impartial and independent mechanism for the investigation of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under international law committed in Syria.
Al-Mouallimi said: “The Kingdom’s role with regard to the Syrian issue is to support political solutions, including the efforts made by the United Nations in political and humanitarian terms.
On her part, O’hel expressed her gratitude to Saudi Arabia, saying: “We thank the Kingdom for its generous support with regard to Syria,” noting that “we must continue to provide political support for the Syrian crisis, especially in the efforts concerned with holding the perpetrators of heinous crimes against the Syrian people accountable.”
The international mechanism works to document, collect, preserve and analyze evidence of violations of international humanitarian law and violations and abuses of human rights in Syria. Saudi Arabia has provided an amount of one million US dollars as a contribution to the voluntary fund of the international mechanism.
