The Syrian Network for Human Rights condemned the vote by a number of countries, led by Russia, in favor of the Assad regime in the Human Rights Council.

The network said in a statement issued yesterday, Saturday, that the decision of the Human Rights Council, which extended the mandate of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria for one year, affirmed that the only solution to the conflict in the country is a political solution, and called on all parties to work towards achieving a comprehensive and real political transition on Basis of the Geneva Communiqué 1 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

It added that 27 countries supported the resolution, while 14 countries abstained from voting, and Russia, China, Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela and Armenia voted against it.

According to the network, 35 decisions have been issued related to the human rights situation in Syria since the beginning of the popular movement until now, including 12 decisions related to the establishment of a fact-finding mission, which has become an international investigation committee, and the extension of its work.
