International concern after the increase in Corona infections in Al-Hol camp in Hasakah countryside
The United Nations has expressed its concern about the situation of the residents of Al-Hol camp in the countryside of Hasaka, after 39 cases of Coronavirus were recorded since the beginning of this month and 6 deaths were reported, as these numbers are the highest since the outbreak of the epidemic in Syria in March of last year.
Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said in a press briefing: “We are concerned about the increase in cases of Covid-19 virus throughout Syria, including in Al-Hol camp,” at a time when medical staff and humanitarian organizations working in the camp fear an escalation.
The “Covid-19” pandemic in the largest overcrowded camp of its kind in Syria suffers from a shortage of medical supplies.
Dujarric warned of the spread of the epidemic in the overcrowded camp, saying: “Humanitarian organizations support contact tracing, and realize that a greater spread may be devastating due to the already precarious situation of families in the camp.”
He pointed out that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners support the facility to deal with the “Covid 19” pandemic in Al-Hol camp, and provide health assistance, water and sanitation to reduce the transmission of the virus.
And he spoke in his press statement about the situation of children inside the camp, saying: “More than 31 thousand children live in Al-Hol camp, more than half of the camp’s population, these are under the age of 12, and no child should grow up in a place like Al-Hol camp,” according to “
Middle east”.
In turn, the administration of Al-Hol camp announced an increase in cases of Coronavirus, and Gaber Mustafa, the official of the Relationship Office, said: “Fears are increasing about the outbreak of the virus, with at least 8 people dying during the past month and 39 others being infected.”
