The White House announces the upcoming date between Biden and Putin in Switzerland
US President Joe Biden will meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 16, a White House spokeswoman, Jane Saki, said on Tuesday.
Jane Saki said that Biden and Putin will discuss urgent issues of the day, as part of efforts to restore balance in US-Russian relations, adding: “We seek to restore predictability and stability in US-Russian relations.”
For his part, the Kremlin announced in a statement today, Tuesday, “According to the agreement reached, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with US President Joseph Biden in Geneva on June 16.”
The statement added that the discussion is supposed to address the state and prospects for developing Russian-American relations and issues of strategic stability, in addition to the urgent files on the international agenda, including cooperation in combating the Coronavirus pandemic and settling regional conflicts.
This is the first meeting between the two presidents since Biden took office, and will take place on the sidelines of the G7 and NATO leaders’ meetings.
During their meeting last Wednesday, the foreign ministers of the United States and Russia expressed their countries’ readiness to cooperate. Anthony Blinken told reporters during a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the Arctic Council meeting in Reykjavik, saying: “If the leaders of Russia and the United States can work
