US envoy to United Nations visits Turkey seeking to ensure humanitarian aid to Syrians
The United States representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, began a visit to Turkey, including a visit to the border with Syria, this week, to discuss the need for humanitarian aid to reach the liberated north of Syria.
This visit comes before a likely dispute with Russia in the UN Security Council regarding the extension of an operation to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria across the Turkish-Syrian border.
Last Tuesday, US officials announced that the US representative to the United Nations will visit the Turkish-Syrian border, to meet with a number of officials from UN agencies and Syrian relief agencies, and to discuss the arrival of humanitarian aid to northern Syria.
Officials at the US Mission to the United Nations confirmed that Thomas Greenfield will express the strong US support for humanitarian aid to enter Syria and the US commitment to the people of Syria, as they put it.
