The United States: We will provide more than $239 million as humanitarian aid to the Syrians
The United States of America announced that it will provide $239 million in additional humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, and this came in a statement issued by the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield.
The statement stated, “This new funding is critical assistance to needy families in Syria, Syrian refugees, and host communities in neighboring countries.”
The US ambassador emphasized that “the funding will support humanitarian partners providing life-saving assistance, including food to displaced families in Syria and the region, as well as providing critical relief supplies, psychosocial support and other protection services to conflict-affected children, and helping to repair and rehabilitate water and sanitation systems.” to protect against the Corona Virus (Covid-19).
The statement stressed the need for the UN Security Council to extend the authorization for cross-border humanitarian access through Bab al-Hawa on the Turkish border, before the current authorization expires, and to restart other border crossings.
The Syria Response Coordinators team had previously said that the authorization for the entry of humanitarian aid across the border into the regions of northern Syria, through UN Security Council Resolution No. 2533/2020, will expire on July 11, 2021, and in the event that the authorization mechanism for humanitarian aid entry is not renewed, the region will witness a collapse complete in the humanitarian and economic aspects.
