Response coordinators warn of camps becoming a center for spreading the epidemic
The response coordinators team said that the continued registration of coronavirus infections in the northern Syrian camps increases the risks of them becoming a center for spreading the epidemic, and greatly increases pressure on humanitarian response operations in the region.
The team pointed out that high rates of injuries were recorded in the camps for the displaced, as 232 were recorded during the period between May 20 and June 4, bringing the total cases recorded within the camps to 2,587, which is equivalent to 10.82 percent of the total cases recorded in the region.
The team stressed that the very high population density and overcrowding of IDPs within the camps, along with the lack of hygiene and inadequate sanitary conditions, pose a major threat to the safety and health of these individuals.
The team called on all humanitarian organizations urgently to ensure prevention, treatment and control of the spread of the virus within the camps, and at the same time called on the international community and international institutions based on humanitarian work in the region, to intervene more than the current reality through financial and logistical support for organizations operating in North western Syria.
The “Early Warning and Epidemic Response Network” had announced the registration of 52 new cases in the liberated areas in northwestern Syria, bringing the total number of infections to 23,914 and the number of recovery cases to 20,753 cases, while the death toll reached 676 cases, and the total number of analyzes to 140,117 tests in northern Syria.
