Civilian and revolutionary bodies: Preventing aid from entering Syria is a war crime that cannot be tolerated
Yesterday, Tuesday, many Syrian civil and revolutionary bodies talked about the humanitarian catastrophe that threatens northwest Syria in the event that the mechanism for entering aid through the Bab al-Hawa crossing is not renewed.
This came in a statement signed by 76 Syrian city authorities and revolutionary associations, including the “Syrian Media Union,” “The Union of Journalists of Aleppo and its Countryside,” “Revolution Activists Union,” “Ahrar Houran Gathering,” and “Aleppo Revolutionaries Council,” in addition to the “Expatriate Medical Association.”
SEMA, the Free Syrian Lawyers Association, the Syrian Jurists Association, the General Council of Muslim Scholars in Syria, and several others.
The statement said: “The Assad regime and its allies have been seeking for ten years to use the weapon of starvation and siege and to prevent the entry of aid to areas outside their control, according to a systematic policy of displacement and subjugation.”
The statement added: “A new humanitarian catastrophe threatens millions of Syrians in northwest Syria, including two million displaced people in camps that do not protect them from freezing or cold,” noting that “Russia threatens to use its veto against extending the authorization to enter humanitarian aid through Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is the only outlet to northern Syria.”
He stressed that medical and humanitarian aid is a non-negotiable right, and any denial of this right is considered a “war crime that cannot be tolerated.”
The statement pointed out that the Syrian people are waiting for the international community in addition to extending the decision to enter aid across the border, and if the aid is transferred to the areas of the Assad regime only, it is a political reward for it for starving the Syrians.
