Baghdad Summit: The solution in Syria must be political

The tripartite summit, which was held on Sunday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, discussed the Syrian file, which brought together the Jordanian monarch, the Egyptian president, and the Iraqi prime minister.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi said in a press conference that King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhim discussed the Syrian file, and stressed that “the solution must be political to rid Syria of terrorism.”

In the final statement of the summit, the three leaders stressed the need to reach a political solution in Syria, based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254, and “adherence to the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, and pursuit of common interests.”

For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi revealed in a statement to the American newspaper “Washington Post” last August, that the three countries plan to enter into a strategic alliance called the “New Levant Project.”

It is noteworthy that this summit was postponed twice, the first on March 26, after the two trains collided in the Egyptian “Sohag” governorate, which led to dozens of casualties and injuries, and the second, on April 7, due to the security conditions that had passed. by Jordan.
