The Central Committee appeals to the United Nations to lift the siege of Daraa Al- and prevent its storming

The Central Committee in Daraa Al-Balad appealed to the United Nations to intervene and lift the siege on the people, warning that Iranian militias would storm residential neighborhoods, which would herald a “humanitarian catastrophe” and a large wave of displacement in the region and towards Jordan.

The committee said in a statement, quoted by the Ahrar Houran Association, that “the people of Daraa al-Balad and the besieged areas rejected the war and resorted to negotiation, but the forces of the Assad regime and the Iranian militias still refuse the solution and escalate their military operations.”

The statement added, “All the proposals submitted by the negotiating committee to stop the bombing and attempts to storm and complete displacement were rejected, indicating that the goal is to undermine the dignity of the cradle of the revolution and the victory of tyranny over freedom and dignity.”

It also called on Russia to “respect its obligations” as the guarantor of the 2018 settlement agreement, calling on opposition delegations to withdraw from the Geneva and Astana tracks within a maximum period of 48 hours since the issuance of this statement in the event that the siege on Daraa is not lifted.

In this context, the Syrian Civil Defense warned the international community of the occurrence of an “imminent humanitarian catastrophe” in which civilians would be victims, due to the continued siege by the Assad regime on residential neighborhoods in Daraa al-Balad.

The Civil Defense said, in a statement, also yesterday, Tuesday, that “the inaction of the international community, the Security Council and the United Nations in the face of what is happening in Daraa was a clear indication that there will be no movement to deter any military operation and displacement of the population.”

He pointed out that there is a large displacement movement in the neighborhoods of Daraa Al-Balad, while more than 300 families are still being held by the Assad regime forces, who use them as human shields.

According to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Democratic and Republican lawmakers called on the White House to work to stop the escalation and hold the Assad regime and its supporters in Syria and Iran responsible for what is happening in Daraa in particular and Syria in general.
