UNRWA: Lives of more than 30,000 Palestinian refugees are at risk in Daraa

In a statement, UNRWA warned that the lives of more than 30,000 Palestinian refugees have become more at risk in Daraa, as a result of the continued siege and bombardment of the Assad regime forces.

UNRWA said that “more than 600 Palestinian refugee families, about 3,000 individuals, live in the camp area in Daraa, where the humanitarian conditions are dire.”

The agency added, “Following the closure of the Al-Saraya humanitarian crossing, the stocks of medicines, foodstuffs and bread ran out on 2 August.

The agency pointed out that the cut off of water and electricity in the camp led to the suspension of the necessary preparations for the children’s return to school, and the ability of western Daraa refugees to obtain UNRWA services has become limited.

The agency called on all parties to the conflict to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access, and to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, including UNRWA services and facilities in the governorate.

This comes in light of the continued bombing of the besieged neighborhoods by the Assad regime’s forces in Daraa al-Balad area.

Today, Tuesday, the Assad regime bombed the besieged neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad with mortars and heavy machine guns, while clashes erupted after midnight between the people of Daraa and the forces of the Assad regime on the outskirts of the besieged neighborhoods.

On August 15, the Central Committee in Daraa Governorate received from Russia a paper copy of a road map that aligns with what the Assad regime wants and paves the way for its full control over the besieged neighborhoods in Daraa al-Balad.

Yesterday, Monday, the Ahrar Houran assembly quoted the official spokesman for the Daraa al-Balad Committee, Adnan al-Masalma as saying: “The Daraa Committee is still discussing with the Coordination Committee emanating from the road map, to clarify some of the points it mentioned without reaching any agreement on any of them so far.”
